Microneedling

Boost collagen to rejuvenate your skin to help reduce scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, reduce pores, elevate overall skin texture and achieve brighter skin.

Benefits of Microneedling

Fresher, More Youthful Glow

Microneedling also known as 'Collagen Induction Therapy' reactivates the skins natural ability to produce its own hyaluronic acid and collagen in order to improve skin texture, tone and elasticity, producing a fresher more youthful glow.

Collagen, is the primary protein that makes up your bodily tissues and is the key ingredient in keeping your skin looking young, firm, and smooth. As we age, collagen production naturally declines. In addition, collagen production can be prematurely stunted when the skin is injured and then scarred, as with scars caused by acne.

Collagen keeps the skin plump and youthful, so increasing collagen production helps restore skin elasticity and strength and helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

Studies have shown that micro needling can increase collagen levels by up to 1,000% after a single session.

Anti-ageing Effects

Regular microneedling facials are recommend for anyone wishing to combat aging skin.

Tiny needles penetrate the skin using a Derma Pen. This is a method of controlled trauma which initiates the wound healing process, encouraging skin cells to be renewed. As the skin repairs, the natural production of collagen and elastin is triggered, giving an almost immediate plumping effect. New collagen is produced and any misaligned collagen caused by scarring is broken down.

Over the next few weeks, through the skin's healing process, a new collagen and elastin matrix is created and this continues for up to several months. This new matrix will start to thicken the skin and improve skin texture giving the skin a fresher more youthful appearance.

As a result microneedling can help to:

  • soften fine lines
  • fade acne scars
  • tackle sun damage, like hyperpigmentation and age spots
  • shrink enlarged pores
  • reduce uneven skin tone
  • brighten skin
  • reduce the appearance of stretch marks

Enlarged Pores

Your skin loses it elasticity with age, which causes your skin to stretch and lead to large pores. Microneedling reduces the appearance of pores through the stimulation of collagen and elastin.

Excess oil and dead skin cells can also gather in the pores causing pores to appear larger than usual. Microneedling combined with a course of skin peels therefore delivers great results to further rejuvenate the skin, leaving you with clearer, younger-looking skin.

Scars & Stretch Marks

Scars are caused by a misalignment of collagen which disrupts the matrix of normal healthy skin. This causes indentations and/or raised bumps on the area.

Stretch marks occur when there is a rapid expansion of skin. The collagen and elastin matrix is stretched out of alignment and produce a new collagen matrix of pinky, red lines.

Microneedling is very effective at treating acne scars. However, results with stretch marks can take a little longer and multiple sessions of a deeper treatment are required. However, when results are seen they are often quite impressive.

Hair loss

Microneedling can also be an effective treatment for hair loss.

By creating wounds in the skin microneedling is thought to regenerate the health of the hair follicles and stimulate hair growth.

Microneedling also allows the any product, to be absorbed better giving far better treatment results.

Long Lasting Results

A mesotherapy cocktail- based serum from the CLINICARE range is applied to the skin and is then microneedled into the skin so that it penetrates deeper into the layers of the dermis. CLINICARE’S special formulas deliver outstanding results due to a unique combination of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, antioxidants, peptides and other powerful active ingredients which have intense anti-ageing, anti-pigmentation, tightening and hydrating effects.

All products are designed to provide long lasting, deep skin hydration and rejuvenation.

Microneedling requires more than one session for optimal results – the average amount of treatments are three to six, every four to six weeks. Maximum results are obtained after a series treatments. Following the course of treatments collagen continues to accumulate for up to 3 months. Collagen continues to mature and remodel, further tightening the skin and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Microneedling can also be combined with other aesthetic treatments, such as skin boosters and LUMIXA LED therapy, for a real collagen boost. A free consultation is provided to come up with a treatment plan tailored to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Microneedling should not be carried out if you have an active tan as there is the risk of causing hypopigmentation. Please keep your face out of the sun for two weeks prior to the appointment
  • The use of any harsh anti-ageing products containing retinol should be avoided for 2 days prior to the appointment
  • The downtime with microneedling is very short. When you leave the appointment your skin is likely to feel red and swollen, a little like sunburn. This resolves within 48 hours
  • Peeling is also common as the healing response is instigated and the skin is repairing itself
  • Keep the skin clean – do not apply makeup that day. Some individuals may experience a breakout after microneedling as new cells are encouraged to come to the surface of the skin, but not everyone will experience this
  • To protect your skin, swimming pools, saunas, and heavy exercise should be avoided for 48 hours
  • Keep your face out of the sun for two weeks after the appointment – wearing a good factor 50 suncream is essential
  • Avoid any harsh skin care products that exfoliate the skin including glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), Retinol and vitamin C serum for at least the first 48 hours after microneedling. These can be gradually introduced into your daily skin care regime once the skin has recovered
  • CLINICARE have a great 5 step home care plan which can be used following the treatment to maximise results. Please discuss this at your appointment if you would like any further information

Microneedling is safe for all skin types. It can be an effective treatment for those with darker skin tones. These include people with olive or light brown skin tones to those with dark brown skin tones.

Microneedling is suitable for many skin conditions. However, a microneedling treatment is not recommended for patients with bacterial skin diseases like active acne, psoriasis, or eczema, as the bacteria can enter the microchannels created with the needle and cause infection.

Although microneedling is great for reducing acne scars, if you suffer with active acne you are best to try chemical peels.

Although microneedling at home isn’t particularly risky, these microneedling tools you can buy for home treatments, such as a derma roller, don’t have quite the same effect as a professional microneedling device. Going to the correct depth within the skin is extremely important to generate collagen production and also not to damage the skin. The needles with the at home tools tend to not go deep enough to generate collagen production, which therefore defeats the purpose of having microneedling done in the first place. However, it is important not to go too deep.

Microneedling needs to produce ‘controlled trauma’ i.e. trauma to the skin without causing any damage that will do more harm than good. You must be very careful therefore not to drag the tools over the skin, or apply to much pressure and therefore having the correct technique is extremely important.

These at-home tools also pose a greater risk for infection if the needles are not being with replaced or disinfected after each use.

If you want the best results from microneedling, go to a professional. Having microneedling done by a professional with experienced hands is safer in addition to being more effective.

Everyone’s experience is different, especially as different depths will be used for different skin concerns. Mild irritation can be experienced in areas where the skin is thinner, such as the forehead, the eye area and the scalp. However, this is completely manageable and the procedure is quick.

Numbing cream is not generally required and we don’t recommend it is used in the procedure as numbing cream slows down the skin’s response, which results in a delayed wound response. This means areas of the skin could be over or under treated.
