Healthier & More Radiant Appearance
Dermaplaning is the perfect minimally invasive procedure for deep exfoliation, whilst also removing facial hair, giving the skin a healthier and more radiant appearance. Dermaplaning can help to smooth out scarring, reduce uneven skin tone, as well as minimise fine lines and wrinkles.
The skin is gently exfoliated using a scalpel to leave the skin looking brighter and softer. A dermaplaning treatment can remove up to two to three weeks worth of dead skin cells, with the results lasting three to four weeks.
This deep exfoliation also triggers collagen production which helps to smooth and firm the skin. Blood circulation is also increased, bringing more nourishment and nutrients to help produce healthy skin.
Get the Ultimate Glow
As we age skin cells reproduce and shred more slowly. However, they also die quicker. This results in a build up of dead skin cells on the skin's surface, resulting in a duller complexion.
The top layer of dull dead cells are removed using a scalpel, unveiling a new fresh layer of dewy, glowing skin. The scalpel is passed very gently over the skin and so this is a completely painless and very relaxing procedure to help brighten the skin.
Skincare products can also now penetrate and be absorbed deeper into the skin for ultra nourishment.
In addition, by removing the fine hairs known as "peach fuzz", this gives a smoother base for makeup, which often gets clogged up within the hairs, making this the perfect treatment to have before any event if you're looking for that ultimate glow.
Deep Cleanse for Cleaner Pores
Along with exfoliating and getting rid of unwanted peach fuzz, dermaplaning is a great deep cleansing facial treatment that removes dirt and oils from the pores. When pores become clogged they appear larger and so become more noticeable. Removing dirt and dead cells from the pores will help to make them appear smaller.
Dermaplanning combined with microneedling treatment is an effective way to reduce pore size as the skin is exfoliated, cleansed and tightened.
Smooth Texture & Reduce Acne Scars
Along with helping to soften the skin, dermaplaning also smooths out uneven skin texture and can help reduce acne scars.
The discolouration and uneven texture associated with scar tissue is often caused by dead cells on the surface of the scar and so by removing these and inducing more collagen, this helps to reduce the appearance of the scar.
Dermaplaning combined with microneedling is a great way to reduce acne scarring as the dermaplaning procedure helps to improve the skin's surface and microneedling helps to rebuild the misaligned collagen causing the scar.
Soothing & Rejuvenating Effects
Following the dermaplaning facial the CLINICARE AHA + EGF Skin Boosters is applied, which contains a mixture of five difference Alpha Hydroxy Acids, antioxidants and growth factors.
This is particularly recommended for skin rejuvenation, acne and the prevention and treatment of photo-ageing. It is a mesotherapy stimulation without injections which leaves the skin feeling silk, soft and supple.
This is then followed by a facial sheet mask which has excellent soothing and rejuvenating effects.
Dermaplaning is the ideal facial treatment when it’s incorporated as part of a patient’s long-term anti-aging strategy. A dermaplaning treatment is great to combine with other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as skin boosters, which target rejuvenation of the skin cells deeper into the dermis.
Frequently Asked Questions
Once the hair is removed will it grow back quicker and thicker?
No – this is not physiologically possible. Your hair will start to grow back at the same rate. The vellus hair is the fine hair which covers most of your body. The thicker hair, known as terminal hair, is predominately on your scalp. However, some individuals do have small amounts of terminal hair on their face. Terminal hair becomes thicker as you get closer to the root and therefore as this hair grows back it may feel thicker purely because you are closer to the root. These hairs can be temporarily removed with tweezers prior to the treatment.
The soft vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture.
Will dermaplaning cut and damage the skin?
No – not if performed by a suitably qualified practitioner who uses a specialised surgical instrument and the skin is prepped correctly.
Dermaplaning lightly disrupts your skin barrier (the outer layer of your skin that makes it protected). However, it does not damage it. Although over exfoliating will cause damage to the skin’s barrier and so it’s very important to follow the pre and post treatment care.
Does the treatment hurt?
No – dermaplaning is entirely painless and is a very relaxing treatment. The instrument is lightly scraped over the skin using very minor pressure. We therefore do not use numbing cream as this is not necessary.
Can dermaplaning cause spots?
No but dermaplaning does stimulate new skin cells to be produced and cells to rise to the surface of the skin. Therefore, any spots currently underneath the skin may be encouraged to the surface.
By removing the build-up of dead skin and excess skin oils from the surface of your pores, dermaplaning may help prevent some future breakouts.
It is very important to keep the skin clean and not touch the face after the treatment for the next 24 hours.
You should also avoid direct sun exposure for three days following the treatment and make sure you are always wearing a good SPF cream to the face. We recommend an SPF 30 as a minimum.
Can I combine dermaplaning with other procedures?
Absolutely! By removing the dead layer of skin cells other treatments will penetrate better into the skin.
Dermaplaning can be carried out before a chemical peel so that the peel penetrates deeper, before microneedling known as the ‘MILLION DOLLAR FACIAL’ and before various other treatments such as skin boosters.
CLINICARE also have a great 5 step home care plan which can be used following treatments to maximise results. Please discuss this at your appointment if you would like any further information.
Is my skin type suitable for the treatment?
Dermaplaning is safe for most skin types, especially if you are looking to target sun damage, fine lines, dry patches, and dull skin.
If you have sensitive skin the treatment may not be suitable for you as it may irritate the skin.
The treatment is not suitable if you have active acne as the treatment will irritate the spots and spread the bacteria. If you suffer with acne then you are best off exfoliating the skin using a chemical peel, which also contains the appropriate ingredients to help minimise your spots.
What should I do prior to the treatment?
Three days prior to the treatment it is important to discontinue the use of exfoliants on the skin. This includes an exfoliants which contain microbeads, along with any chemical exfoliants like salicylic and glycolic acid. Retinol products should also be stopped 3 days prior to the treatment to prevent irritation.
If you suffer with cold sores please let us know prior to booking your appointment as dermaplaning has the potential to cause inflammation and reactivate the cold sore virus. Suitable medication can be recommended to try and prevent this.
What can I expect after the treatment?
Some clients may experience a slight redness in the face following the treatment, but this doesn’t occur in all cases and quickly fades.
