Benefits of Platelet Rich Therapy ‘PRP’ & ‘IPRF’ Hair Treatment

Thicker, Healthier Hair

PRP therapy (Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy) is an amazing, natural treatment for skin rejuvenation and hair loss. A PRP hair treatment stimulates the hair follicles and nourishes the scalp to achieve thicker, healthier hair.

PRP therapy is a cosmetic injectable treatment that uses your own platelet rich plasma. The plasma component of your blood contains vital proteins called growth factors, amino acids and stem cells. When injected back into the scalp, these growth factors are released.

Dormant and weakened hair follicles are nourished and stimulated, to produce thicker, fuller, healthier hair. New healthy cells are also reproduced, which are essential for hair regrowth.

Boosted Growth & Nutrients

The skin is the last organ in your body that the blood delivers any nutrients too. Therefore, unfortunately by the time the blood reaches the skin, the majority of the nutrients have been delivered to the muscles and organs within the body. Therefore, by taking the blood and injecting the plasma directly into the hair follicles we are using a concentrated supply of the blood's own nutrients, which would ordinarily reach the scalp in limited supply.

PRP is one of the most effective and sought-after treatments for hair growth on the market today, as benefits include:
- increase in hair thickness
- increase in the number of hairs produced by each hair follicle
- increase in the health of the strands of hair
- increase the growth phase of the hair cycle
- reduce the number of hairs that fall out.

Boost Thinning Hair

PRP is best used for those where the hair follicles are still active but are in need of a boost and therefore is best for thinning hair and slowing or stopping the progression of hair loss. It is not suitable if the hair follicles are now dead.

It's normal to lose hair. The normal hair loss rate is fifty to eighty strands a day. If the loss rate exceeds one hundred strands per day, it signifies increased hair shedding and is considered “Hair-loss”. PRP hair treatment helps to combat this hair loss and encourages hair regrowth. PRP is therefore very effective to treat:

• Male/Female pattern baldness
• Thinning hair
• Alopecia
• Menopause hair loss
• Post-hair transplant stimulation

PRP Hair treatments provide effective results with a high success rate without the need for surgery.

PRP with Biotin

At Alabaster Aesthetics we also have the option of using a PRP tube that contains Biotin. Biotin helps maintain hair growth by stimulating keratin, producing stronger, healthier hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

A very small blood sample is taken, although this will vary depending on the area being treated. Generally, 2 vacutainers are used to treat the scalp.

This will vary from person to person due to the individual’s natural variation in quality of Platelet Rich Plasma, as well as their lifestyle.

For PRP hair rejuvenation, generally a course of three to six sessions are recommended. However, the longer you can continue with the treatment the better it is for your skin.

Whilst we cannot stop the aging process, we can slow it down and therefore the best results are seen on individuals who lead a healthy lifestyle and maintain the results.

No, your plasma is clear and therefore is not visible. With a vampire facial, after the plasma has been microneedled into the skin, before applying the face mask a small amount of the remaining blood can be dabbed onto the skin. This is more for a photo effect as this part of the blood does not contain as much as the goodness as the plasma.  This is an optional part of the procedure and most clients do not wish to have this step included.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medication such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen for one week prior to the appointment
  • Avoid alcohol 48 hours prior to the appointment
  • There is very little downtime with a PRP procedure. You may experience some mild bruising, redness and slight swelling after the treatment. Heavy exercise, and extreme heat, such as saunas, steam rooms and sun beds should be avoided until this subsides.
  • Keep the skin clean – do not apply makeup that day

PRP is an extremely low risk treatment as it uses your own cells to inject into the skin and so poses no danger of a foreign-body reaction or an allergic reaction.

It is a very safe procedure with no adverse reactions and has been used in the hospital system and in sports medicine for many years due to its effectiveness in the wound healing process.

PRP has been extensively used in both the medical field and with cosmetic procedures for many years due to its effectiveness on cell growth.
