The first thing that most people notice when they see you is your eyes.
Unfortunately, the skin around the eye area tends to age quicker than the rest of your face as the skin around your eyes is thinner than on the rest of your face, making it more susceptible to damage.
We rely on our eyes for so many facial expressions and so those repeated movements overtime have an effect on the skin. Lack of sleep, tiredness, and stress can also affect the skin around your eye area.
As we age, cell renewal begins to slow, your body produces less collagen and elastin, along with proteins that are responsible for keeping your skin firm and elastic. This results in looser and thinner skin, causing eye bags to become more pronounced, veins around the eyers are more visible and fine lines and wrinkles more pronounced.
Due to the diminishment of fat and soft tissue as we age the hollowness under the eyes also makes dark circles even more pronounced, adding years to your face.
It’s therefore really important to focus on the eyes as part of your skincare regime. Concentrating on treating other areas of the face, with antiwrinkle injections for example, can lead to the rest of the face looking smooth but with wrinkles under the eyes, leading to a more unnatural result.
Particularly when you over treat the crow’s feet with anti-wrinkle injections you may find that your under eyes start to become more wrinkled. This is because the muscle that is responsible for creating the crow’s feet lines is a continuous oval-shaped muscle (the orbicularis oculi). When you treat the section of the muscle that is responsible for producing crow’s feet unfortunately, because this is a continuous muscle, the remainder of the untreated muscle can still contract and over compensates for the part of the muscle that is relaxed. This causes more orbicularis oculi muscle movement under the eye that creates unwanted wrinkles in this area.
Thankfully, there are many things you can do to try and reverse ageing to the under-eye area to ensure the skin looks firm, rejuvenated, and wrinkle-free.
Below are some of the best techniques to effectively treat your under-eye concerns and promote a rejuvenated appearance.

1. Plump up your skin with Hyaluronic Acid based fillers
Hyaluronic acid provides continuous moisture to our skin by binding up to 1000 times its weight in water. It is the only biological substance that can retain this amount of water. Indeed, one of the hallmarks of youthful skin is its moisture content that helps keep the skin looking smooth, plump and healthy.
TEOSYAL® PURESENSE REDENSITY 2 is a dermal filler specifically designed for the treatment of dark, under-eye circles that is renowned for delivering immediate and long-lasting results and being safe and risk-free.
It contains a unique mixture of cross-linked and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, along with a mixture of Vitamins and antioxidants which help restore skin hydration, promote skin cell regeneration and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
It provides immediate and natural under eye correction and delays ageing of the eye contour with lasting results of between 8-12 months.
2. Rejuvenate with skin boosters
Tear Trough Skin Boosters such as Jalupro and Sunekos contain a potent cocktail of amino acids and hyaluronic acid.
These skin boosters work by stimulating the fibroblasts in the skin to encourage it to produce collagen and elastin. The hyaluronic acid also provides hydration to plump the skin and give a youthful glow and the amino acids are the building blocks for making the proteins collagen and elastin.
2-4 treatments are recommended two weeks apart to have the following effects:
- Increased volume and plumpness of the skin
- Improvement of wrinkles
- Increased deep and surface hydration
- Lifting and tightening
- Improvement in contour definition
Maintenance sessions are required once every 4-6 months.
3. Bio-regenerate with Nucleofill Soft Plus Eyes
Another favourite for treating the under-eye area is Nucleofill Soft Plus Eyes.
Nucleofill Soft Plus Eyes is a low molecular weight gel (which does not contain HA) which activates the process of bio-regeneration at both the skin level and deep tissue level.
Hyaluronic acid based products will not be suitable for everyone due to its ability to attract water. Therefore, if you suffer with water bags these will often worsen with HA.
Nucleofill Soft Plus Eyes has been specifically created to improve the trophism of the periocular area. It improves skin microcirculation, provides deeps moisture, firmness and contour which reduces eye bags/puffiness, periocular wrinkles.
2-3 treatments at intervals of 2-3 weeks are recommended. Maintenance sessions are required once every 4-6 months.
4. Boost collagen and growth factors with PRP
The dermis is the layer that is responsible for keeping our skin tight, firm, and free of fine lines.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy involves taking the plasma from the blood which contains the valuable collagen and growth factors known as “liquid gold” and injecting this into the dermis so that the skin cells get the boost they need to repair and rejuvenate.
PRP stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to improve elasticity and plumpness, encourages new blood vessels to bring fresh oxygen and clears puffiness due to excess fluid retention.
3-6 sessions are required 4-6 weeks apart for long term visible results. The effects can be seen on the skin after around 4-6 weeks and continues for several months.
Maintenance sessions are recommended every 6 months.
